Specialized Scholarships for Aviation Maintenance

April 26th, 2008 by darellbruin

By Steve Bishop Aviation maintenance is a highly specialized field of work and requires a high degree of understanding, skills, and professionalism. In the last few years, the aviation industry has witnessed a decline in the number of people venturing into the field of aviation maintenance. Apart from this, the high levels of security risk in the aviation industry, especially after the events of September 11, 2001, have boosted concerns regarding the maintenance and day-to-day wear and tear of airplanes. In order to boost this dwindling profession, the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) has launched a campaign to promote a higher degree of professionalism among aviation maintenance personnel. The association is aiming to develop and improve skills, methods, learning, and achievements in the aviation maintenance industry. PAMA has been conducting meeting and seminars at both the national and state levels, and striving to recognize achievements in this field. However, most importantly the association has been collaborating with other organizations in the aviation industry and has been actively addressing the queries of governmental agencies pertaining to maintenance rules and guidelines. In the recent years, PAMA has also established a Student Scholarship Program that recognizes and rewards qualified airframe, power plant, and avionics students who have selected aviation maintenance as a career. The awards that the association provides, may be used for tuition, fees, supplies, or books, which are related to their program The association also supports another scholarship program known as the Foundation Scholarship Program. Created to recognize and reward qualified students who have selected aviation maintenance as a career, the PAMA Foundation (PAMF) Scholarship Program awards $1,000 to the recipients. The association awards these scholarships regardless of the color, race, religion, and the national origin of the applicants. PAMAs programs operate based on donations received and from the funds raised at PAMA’s Annual Chili Cook-Off. Though the scholarships are not renewable, students have the option of reapplying for the scholarship every year. Apart from PAMA, the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) also provides scholarships for qualified students wishing to study further in the field of aviation maintenance. The UAAs Era Aviation, Inc. Scholarship offers two scholarships, each of $2,500. The aid is to help students who are admitted to an aviation maintenance technology program at the university with the cost of tuition, fees, and tools. While one scholarship is awarded to a helicopter maintenance student, the other is awarded to a general aviation maintenance student. Additionally, preference is given to candidates who are intending to follow a career in Alaska itself. While these two are the more prominent of the scholarships in this field, there are others as well, such as the Helicopter Association Internationals (HAI) Aviation Maintenance Technician Scholarship Award Program. This program aims at promoting the choice of helicopter maintenance as a career, and the scholarship is given to five recipients. Apart from this, the first place winner also receives about $1,500 from HAI to assist with the associated expenses. Overall, the field of aviation maintenance should pick up as such kind of scholarships add to the value of the field, and attract more students to enter the industry. While helping students along financially, these aviation maintenance scholarships are also giving rise to specific skill-based talent in the country. Campral - An FDA Approved Alcoholism Drug

April 24th, 2008 by darellbruin

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Zack_Byrd] Zack Byrd Are you sick and tired of having your family life, work life, or social life disrupted due to your alcohol dependency? If you are, you need to seek treatment for your alcohol addiction. Alcoholism is a disease; therefore, it is difficult, if not impossible, for many alcoholics to overcome their alcohol addictions without professional assistance. In the past, that could only be done with counseling and inpatient rehab centers, but there are now easier ways for you to rid yourself of your alcohol addiction. One of those ways involves the use of Campral. Campral is a medication that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2004. Perhaps, that is what makes Campral such a nice treatment option. Without even knowing anything about the drug, expect for the fact it can help with alcoholism, there are many alcoholics and their families who are interested in trying the drug, just because it is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). With approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), you are given a guarantee that Campral is a safe drug, not to mention a drug that has produced successful results in many clinical trials. Although approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is enough for many individuals, you may be looking for more information. Campral is known as delayed released medication. The goal of Campral is to help restore normal balance to the body and the brain. This normal balance is what makes both the body and brain no longer believe that it needs alcohol to survive. This is not only the first step of ridding yourself of alcoholism, but it is, perhaps, the most important. Even with Campral, your body will start to show withdrawal signs, as it would when stopping anything else, like caffeine, it has become dependent on. The good news is that Campral helps to reduce the effects of those withdrawals and in some cases, withdrawal systems are completely eliminated! This is ideal for those who are serious about getting rid of their alcohol dependency, as the withdrawal symptoms are often the hardest part of overcoming an addiction. Although Campral targets the parts of the body and brain that keep an alcohol addiction running strong, Campral, alone, is not enough to get rid of an alcohol addiction. It is advised that Campral be used in conjunction with addiction counseling or at least AA meetings. It is also advised that you stay under the supervision of a medical professional when first using Campral. Since Campral is only obtainable by a prescription, this shouldnt be an issue. Since alcohol withdrawal can cause serious health complications, your physician will likely want to stay in close contact with you when you are using Campral, just for your own safety. When taking Campral, or any other medicine for that matter, you are advised to follow all instructions given to you. To successfully rid yourself of your alcohol dependency with Campral, you will need use Campral as directed. Rosie Speaks From Solid Ground

April 22nd, 2008 by darellbruin

By Ed Howes Six years ago a reconcilliation ceremony took place in Jerusalem, in commeration of a 900 year old event. European Christians who had been quarreling and fighting amongst themselves were urged in November of 1095 A.D. by the Wholly Roman Pope, to organize a Crusade or Christian Jihad against the Turks or Saracens who had possession of Jerusalem and were preventing access by Christian pilgrims. In response, European princes organized great armies to march on Jerusalem. When they arrived in 1099, they created a great blood bath, slaughtering Moslems and Jews alike, even destrying Christian holy sites. Prior to this first crusade of seven, over the course of 200 years, there was a grudging tolerance between Christians, Jews and Moslems in the Middle East. In the 700 years since the Crusades, which did nothing more than consolidate the power of the Roman Papacy, achieving none of the original objectives,(sound familiar yet?) tolerance among the three faiths has been tenuous and Jerusalem is now about as it was in the early Eleventh Century as a holy place of three faiths. Within two years of the 1999 reconcilliation ceremony, an ignorant American president announced a new crusade against the very same Muslims who had so recently had their memories refreshed. This crusade was not to retake Jerusalem, at least, not in the beginning. It would begin with the overthrow of Muslim fundamentalist government in Afghanistan. The president’s apology for his unfortunate choice of words meant little as Muslims would watch him invade Iraq, not in the name of Jesus but in the name of freedom and democracy. With Muslim blood running in the streets, the label for this radical Christian crusade means nothing. They see it as a war on Islam and have every right to see it that way. When one is under threat and attack by the most powerful military force on the planet, one is forced into creative resistance which the crusaders then label radical Islam and vow to wipe it from the face of the earth. But will it stop with the radicals? No it will not. Every moderate Islamist is being radicalized by a (meek and humble Christian) nation which now goes to war over any threat, real or imagined. Since moderate and humble Muslims may become radical threats at any time, we must destroy them all. We don’t like to see it that way, but we can give them no assurance without American leadershio making liars of us. When they have done so, we will come home from work and turn on the TV to watch the war. Say what you want. Rosie is right on the MONEY. Ed Howes sought and found, knocked and entered. Drastic Student Loan Cuts

April 20th, 2008 by darellbruin

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sandra_D._Sims]Sandra D. Sims While most college students were on winter breaks, the US Senate was debating over a bill which included massive student loan cuts. On December 21, 2005 in a 51-50 vote the US Senate passed a bill which included $12 billion in student loan cuts from the federal budget. Vice President Cheney cast the tie-breaking vote, while five Republicans sided with the Democrats who unanimously opposed the bill. A second blow was wielded this week when the House passed a bill also in favor of the student loan cuts. While 13 moderate Republicans joined House Democrats in a no vote, not enough opposition was gained and the bill passed 216 to 214. The drastic measure eliminates $2.2 billion in critical funds used to administer the federal student loan programs. Additional changes included a new 1% insurance fee that student borrowers must pay to guarantee agencies and raising the interest rate cap for parents who take out federal education loans for their children from 7.9 percent to 8.5 percent. The bill outlines a total of $39 billion in budget cuts which besides the student loan cuts, severely reduces Medicaid and Medicare programs for low income and senior Americans. The measure is expected to be signed by President Bush next week. This measure flies in the face of President Bushs comments in the State of the Union Address on February 1st where he emphasized the importance of education. Virginia Governor Tim Kaine said, the Republican leadership in Washington is actually cutting billions of dollars from the student loan programs that serve working families, helping to get their children through college. While opposition to the measure has been strong, Republican leadership ensured that these critical aid programs will be cut. About the Author: Sandra D. One World Order; The “Return of the Khalifate” An Opinion - Part 1

April 19th, 2008 by darellbruin

By Anthony Smith One World Order; The “Return of the Khalifate An Opinion. Part 1. Could the Anti-Christ be a Jewish Muslim from Syria? Is this the reason that The Anti-Christ will fight against the first three nations? Lets look into this. Before we begin I want to let you read some news that isn’t broadcast to the general public. Many times the things that we read are just propaganda and sometimes what we read is made a little flamboyant, to sell papers, and then again the things that we don’t get to read are the things that are really devastating to us. Lets Read. Arutz Sheva News Service; MUSLIM PREACHER ON TEMPLE MOUNT: RESTORE WORLDWIDE ISLAMIC RULE By Hillel Fendel; Sheikh Ismail Nawahda, preaching to Moslem masses on the Temple Mountain Jerusalem on Friday, has brought it out into the open: the call to restore the Moslem Khalifate, or, “Genuine Islamic Rule.” A plan for the “Return of the Khalifate” was published secretly in 2002 by a group called “The Guiding Helper Foundation.” The group explained that it wished to “give direction to the educated Muslim populace in its increasing interest in the establishment of Islam as a practical system of rule.”(I.E. Dictatorship.) This past Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, however, the plan went public. Sheikh Nawahda called publicly for the renewal of the Islamic Khalifate, which would “unite all the Moslems in the world against the infidels.” (create a massive army against all who will not bow down to Mohamidism.)The Khalifate system features a leader, known as a Khalif, who heads worldwide Islam. Assisted by a ten-man council (Sometimes referred to as 10 Kings.), his decisions are totally binding on all Moslems. According to the Foundation’s vision of the Khalifate, significantpunishment can only be meted out for 14 crimes, including “accusing a chaste person of fornication,” “not performing the formal prayer,” and “not fasting during Ramadan.”( This could possibly be a prelude to the mark of the beast (666), knowing who and whom isn’t a follower of the Khalifate.) The Foundation recommends working to restore the Moslem dictatorship using a system of small groups around the world. (These pockets of followers are many times called Cells.) The purpose is so that the “enemies of Islam” who “will definitely try to stop us” will have a “much harder task, if not impossible, if they are faced with a myriad of small groups of differing locations, ethnicities,” etc. ( A world wide Moslem dictatorship isn’t that far fetched an Idea, considering the vast number of their followers, located, may I add, all around the Globe.)This method also “ensures that if one group is found and cut off, other similar groups will remain undetected.” Sheikh Nawahda reminded his Temple Mount audience that the first step taken by Muhammad in stabilizing his rule was to form the nucleus of the first Islamic country in the city of Medina (Medina is a city located North of Mecca and north east of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.). Nawahda also said that the status of Moslems around the world has dropped drastically ever since the collapse of the last Khalifate in 1924, after Turkey became a democratic republic. (This was the beginning of a divided Muslim State. Now we have many divisions of Muslims and civil war between all factions, noting that they are all of the same religion.) Nawahda called upon the Arabs of the Palestinian Authority to rise above their personal and party interests, and said that Moslems must return to Islam and join forces in the struggle against the West. (To have one single man in charge of all Muslims around the world, would be a great disturbance to all Christians and the Gentile Race of people.) He praised the worldwide protests against the anti-Mohammed cartoons, and encouraged the Moslem public to continue such activities. He implied that those who insulted Mohammed are liable for death. The Sheikh designated the Moslem masses as a strong point that can be utilized in the fight against the West. ( This type of rhetoric is a start in the direction of united muslim Force.) In The Book of Revelations and especially in Daniel, we see an upcoming ruler that will take three Kingdoms by force and the other seven by capitulation. Isn’t this the way of the Khalifate? Dan 7:23-27. Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: ( The times and laws, could be what the Muslim Khalifate will desire to do.) and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. end part 1. In Part 2 we will dig into the Scripture to find some answers. ars Dan_7:20; Rev_12:3, Rev_13:1, Rev_17:3, Rev_17:12, Rev_17:13, Rev_17:16-18. The Model Release Passes Muster

April 14th, 2008 by darellbruin

By Carolyn Wright Photographers often follow certain legal practices to protect themselves, but cannot be sure that they will work when challenged. One such example is using a model release to obtain a models permission to use photographs taken of him or her in specific ways. The good news is that the standard model release was recently put to the test, and it passed with flying colors. In 2002, Russian tennis player, Anastasia Myskina, who then was 20 years old, posed for photographs by Mark Seliger. Seliger first photographed Myskina for the Gentleman’s Quarterly’s 2002 “Sports” issue and then photographed her topless. Myskina had signed a model release that said she consented to the use of her name and the pictures by the magazine and by “others it may authorize, for editorial purposes.” After winning the French Open in 2004, a Russian newspaper published the topless photos. Myskina filed an $8 million lawsuit against the publisher, Conde Nast Publications Inc., Gentleman’s Quarterly and Seliger alleging emotional distress and economic injury. The New York judge who presided over the case held that Myskina’s rights were not violated despite her insistence that she did not understand the signed model release and was not fluent in English at the time. Instead, the Judge stated that, “absent allegations of fraud, duress or some other wrongdoing, Myskina’s claimed misunderstanding of the release’s terms does not excuse her from being bound on the contract. Nor can she avoid her obligations under the release because of her purported failure to read its contents.” Even though the photographer allegedly told Myskina that the topless photos were for himself, the Judge found that the oral agreement contradicted the plain language of the written agreement and was not admissible. The Judge then dismissed the case. As a photographer, it is important to protect yourself as much as possible. Fortunately, the model release is one way that has been proven to be effective. How To Grow Luscious Tomatoes

April 11th, 2008 by darellbruin

By Marilyn Pokorney The tomato is the most commonly grown vegetable in theStates. Here are some tips on how to grow your ownbountiful crop of tomatoes. Tomatoes should be grown in full sunlight. Tomato plants require abundant moisture. Tomatoes grow well in many types of soil but prefer fertile,well-drained soil with pH of about 6.5. Garden soil may be improved by adding rotted manure, leafmold, peat moss, or other organic materials. The ideal tomato plant should be six to eight inches tall, dark green, with a stocky stem and well-developed rootsystem. For each family member three to five plants should be grownfor fresh eating. If production for canning is desired, then five to 10 plants person needs to be grown. Plant tomatoes when the weather has warmed and the soiltemperature is above 60F and air temperature is never lowerthan 45 degrees at night. Plant seedlings a little deeper than they were in the pots. Set out tomato plants in the evening or on a cloudy day. Mulching helps stop weed growth and water loss from thesoil. Place a two to three inch layer of organic materialsuch as compost, leaves, straw, grass clippings, hay, newspapers, or black or red plastic sheeting around thegrowing plants. Tomatoes can be grown on the ground or supported by stakesor cages. If using stakes put the stake in when plantingAs the plant grows taller, tie it loosely to the stake every12 inches with soft fabric or twine. Tomatoes require at least one inch of water per week duringMay and June and at least two inches per week during July,August, and September. Water once or twice a week and to adepth of 12 to 18 inches. Space dwarf plants 12 inches apart; staked tomatoes shouldbe 12 to 18 inches apart. Allow 2 to 4 feet between non-staked plants. Rows should be spaced 3 to 5 feet apart for staked plantsand 4 to 6 feet apart for non-staked plants. A 10-20-10 fertilizer should be applied at planting time.Sidedress for the first time when the first fruits are one-third grown. Use about one to two tablespoons per plant.Mix the fertilizer into the soil then water, being carefulnot to get the fertilizer on the foliage. A secondapplication should be made two weeks after the first ripefruit and a third application one month later. Water theplants thoroughly after fertilizing. All fertilizers shouldbe worked into the top six inches of soil. 5 Quick Tips on Family Tree Research or How to Find Your Ancestors

April 10th, 2008 by darellbruin

By Michael D. Weber Family tree research can be an exciting enterprise - you may find long-lost relatives, discover that your ancestors were involved in historic events, or even uncover a completely new branch of your family tree. However, researching genealogy can be a time-consuming and difficult task, and success is by no means guaranteed. We have gathered a few tips and sources for making your family tree search more effective and successful. 5) The first thing you need to do is to talk to your family - parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, anyone who is willing to share their history with you. Ask where and when they were born, what their parents’ names and marriage dates/locations were, what other living relatives they have and who the oldest ones are. Ideally, bring a tape recorder and a notepad to avoid forgetting important names or dates. 4) Once you have the basic picture, the detective work begins. The first place to start is census records, which will tell you exactly when and where your family lived. Once you have that information, you can go on to other genealogy records such as obituary notices, marriage records, land records, tax records, and more. Such research is easily possible online, for instance at http://www.instantfamilytreesearch.com 3) Get birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage licenses and certificates. These most always show parents and sometimes other valuable information including where the parents were both born, their occupations, etc. Marriage certificates show ages, parents, witnesses and other various pieces information including in some cases where the bride, groom, and parents were born and their occupations, etc.Death certificates show death dates, birth dates, parents, who reported the death, where the deceased person was residing and much more info including causes of death, etc. 2) Further genealogy information sources include for instance parish records (Bishop’s transcripts, etc.), cemetery records, newspapers (obituaries and births), immigration records (into a country), emigration records (exiting a country), ships passenger lists, school records, naturalization records, military records, social security records, court records, official documents (county records), business filings, wills, deeds, hospital records, criminal records, bankruptcy records, and more. 1) If you find yourself at a dead end while looking for a particular ancestor, it is often advisable to try an alternate approach. One of the basic rules of genealogy research is to start with yourself and work backwards, in different directions. Try searching for other children or grandchildren of the ancestor independently, and if you are successful, working backwards in time from there. If you really struggle and aren’t making progress, you may want to consider one of the large subscription-based record research sites such as http://www.findapersonservice.com. Herbal Remedies Used In Aromatherapy

April 7th, 2008 by darellbruin

By Evelyn Lim Aromatherapy involves the use of aromatic herbal remedies for physical, emotional, and mental healing. Herbal remedies in the form of essential oils from herbs are distilled to produce soothing, healing aromas. The essential oils used in aromatherapy are usually volatile. This means that the molecules in these herbal remedies evaporate quickly into the air. Every time when you inhale the aroma of an essential oil, the unique components mix and react with the olfactory membranes in your nose, which are directly connected to your brain. Of course, your brain plays a very important part in how your mind, emotions and entire body are regulated. You may then think that aromatherapy is just the practice of sniffing different essential oils. However, that is not all that you can do with these oils. Most of these herbal remedies can also be applied onto your skin. When this is done often enough, it becomes doubly effective. This is because the essential oil is being absorbed directly into your bloodstream as well. The cost of these essential oils can vary quite a lot. Prices vary depending on their availability and the methods that have to be used in order to procure and produce them. For instance 1 ounce of pure lavender oil can be procured for $5 because this is a fairly common plant and easily harvestable. Conversely, you may pay $250 for half an ounce of rose oil. You are also going to need to purchase a diffuser in order to properly use these herbal remedies. This is a special device that is used to disperse the essential oils into the air. These are usually very inexpensive and, in most cases, an atomizer will work fine. There are also special aromatherapy pottery rings available that fit over the top of a light bulb and are relatively inexpensive as well. The herbal remedies used in aromatherapy can be used to treat various health ailments. They can help to alleviate symptoms such as stress, depression, digestive problems, skin problems, hormone imbalances and respiratory problems. Most essential oils are quite potent; hence you would need to follow the instructions found on the label strictly. If you are pregnant or have some major illness or disease, you should also check with your doctor on the use of aromatherapy. Finally, you should note that the one thing that you should not do is to apply essential oils directly to your skin without first diluting it. You also need to ensure that your skin is not sensitive to the herbal remedies that are being used. Evelyn Lim is the publisher of a newsletter on Herbal Home Remedies. She draws on her practical knowledge passed down by her grandmother in the use of herbs to treat common ailments and shares about them in her newsletter.
